FAFSA - New Graduation Requirement for Class of 2025

New Graduation Requirement of Class of 2025 through Class of 2027:

For HHS graduating classes of 2025 through 2027, each graduating high school senior is required by law, as part of New Jersey’s new graduation requirement P.L. 2023, c.295,  to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) in order to receive a diploma.

The FAFSA gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or vocational school. Through completing the FAFSA, students can be considered for federal financial aid, including Pell grants, work-study programs, and loans. In addition, many states and colleges, as well as some private financial aid providers, use FAFSA information to determine students’ eligibility for aid.

The FAFSA is an opportunity to have access to the resources that are needed to consider and enter postsecondary education – whether it be 2-year, 4-year, or technical school. In addition, students who are NJ residents but do not meet the requirements for FAFSA, may consider the NJAFAA as an option. The NJAFAA enables students to receive state financial assistance to support their post-secondary college and career goals.

If you do not qualify for the FAFSA/the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application or you wish to request that your student be waived from this graduation requirement parents/guardians should complete the FAFSA/NJAFAA Waiver Form.   The form must be submitted it to your student’s school counselor by May 1st of your student’s senior year.

Dear Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2025,

As we embark upon this milestone year, we are excited to share several initiatives that were discussed during our recent senior town hall meeting. These initiatives are designed not only to ensure that your student is well-prepared for graduation on June 25, 2025, but also to make this final year a memorable and positive experience where every student’s voice is heard and valued.

We are committed to making this final year fun, meaningful, and full of opportunities for academic and personal growth as we celebrate the journey that has brought our seniors to this pivotal moment.

Below are links to the initiatives, along with a brief explanation of each:

1. Senior Trip Planning Survey: This survey will gather student preferences and ideas for the upcoming senior trip. Your student's feedback is crucial to planning a memorable experience for the entire class.

2. Lead the Leader Interest Form: This initiative aims to help students develop their public speaking and leadership skills. If your student is interested in growing their confidence and becoming a voice for their peers, they are encouraged to join under the guidance of Ms. Brown.

3. Senior Check-up Form: This form will be used by Ms. Brown to monitor your student’s academic progress, attendance, and overall readiness for graduation. Ms. Brown will work closely with seniors to ensure they have the necessary support to finish their senior year successfully and stay on track for graduation.

We ask that you encuorage your student to complete these forms. Together, we can make the journey to graduation successful and seamless!

Best,

12th Grade Team
